ECC Boys Basketball Tournament Recap

All the games yesterday in the ECC Quarterfinals held at St. Bernard went fairly as expected early, with

NL beating East Lyme, NFA beating Windham, and Waterford beating Bacon Academy.  The final game

of the night was definitely the game of the day.  Stonington had already beaten Ledyard twice this

season, but Stonington would be playing without one of their top two players, so this game was

a toss up.  Ledyard really controlled the game throughout, getting up by as many as 15 before

Stonington made a furious comeback late.  Former St. Bernard player John Rainey, who transferred to

Ledyard over the summer came back to his old stomping grounds and played great.  Rainey’s 5 three

pointers were the catalyst to establish that big lead.  Ethan Schroeder’s 3 pointer with less than a

minute to play brought the Bears to within 3.  Ledyard was able to salt the game away with free

throws to pull away for the victory.  On Wednesday, the semi-finals are set with Ledyard meeting

Waterford at 6pm and New London playing NFA at 7:30.  Both games will be played at New London

High School.
