2014 Camp Results, Tuesday: Gators Win Thriller

There were some exciting games on Tuesday at Batter Up, with some outstanding

performances across the board.  Here is a quick rundown, with more games scheduled

for the rest of the week.


The Mets and Braves played a thrilling game, as the Mets took a huge lead early 8-2 on

the strength of a two run home run by Alex Casper, with James Vetelino scoring on

the play.  Christian Hewko stopped the Mets rally with an outstanding diving play for

the Braves.  The Braves then responded with 6 runs to tie the game in the bottom of

the 5th, with the help of some clutch hits by Melanie Martin and Aidan Johnson.  The

game ended in a 10-10 tie, well played by all.


The Giants took game one of their series with the Dodgers on a walk off hit by Peter

Sherwood.  Anthony Jessuck and Connor Dougan each had 2 hits in the game as well.

With some quality coaching adjustments according to Coach Dave Peck, the Dodgers

came roaring back in game two with their high octane offense.  Tyler Rogers had an

rbi double and Eli Sahadi had a two rbi triple to seal the win.


NCAA Champion Vanderbilt continued its great play with a 9-4 win over perennial

powerhouse LSU.  This was an intense and close game throughout, with Vandy’s Jack

Porter having 2 hits and 2 rbi’s, and John Buckley ripping 3 hits and scoring twice.

Jayden Creswell led LSU with 3 hits and two rbi’s, while Spencer Haynes had two hits

and scored a run.


In what could have been the game of the day, the Florida Gators beat the Miami

Hurricanes 11-10 on a walk off single by Gabe Delacruz in the bottom of the 6th.  Evan

McCue was the hitting star for the Gators going 4-4 with 3 rbi’s and two runs scored.

Coleman Glasser, Sam Mullaney, Alex Roth, and Colby Arnold all had multiple hits in

the game.  Coach Fuller and Coach Gonski have been very impressed with the overall

talent level in this game.  The Rivalry resumes today!


The Red Sox beat the Cubs 5-2 with the game featuring outstanding defense on both

teams. Leading the way for the Sox were Gil Glasser, who went 3-3 with an rbi, Sean

Cioci had two hits and was “money” in the field according to the coaches.  Brett Noreika

had two hits, including a double.  For the Cubbies, Will Rocchetti had 3 hits and an

rbi, and Kenny Miller and Ian Spracklin had two hits apiece.


The Cardinals beat the Yankees 10-6 in a slugfest.  Will Cannella was the hitting star

of the day with 2 home runs and 5 rbi’s.  Chris Watrous made two spectacular plays in

the outfield for the Cards as well.  Rhys Hammond and Owen Williams each had two

hits.  Tyler Gymr led the Yanks with 2 hits including a double and 3 rbi’s.  Liam Kane

had 3 hits and 2 runs scored for the Yanks as well.
